About Us

From a small shop in Liverpool opened in 1912 to supply pillows and mattresses to the ships plying the vital and increasingly important trade routes to the Americas, to supplying critically important life jackets to the merchant and Royal Navy during WWII our story and history is one of unrivalled heritage, longevity and expertise.
.

Four generations of the Black family have built what is now acknowledged to be the UK’s leading fully integrated manufacturer of pillows, duvets and mattress toppers. Whether it be, the invention of machinery that automated the layering of coir fibres on interlaced mattress padding without stitching by the current MD’s great grandfather, to the introduction of sonic seamless welding, the opening of a wholly owned state of the art manufacturing plant in Estonia or the creation of a UK R&D department with over 60 projects currently underway, technical innovation has been central to our modus operandi.

It is our ambition that this, coupled with our unswerving belief in continuously adapting to remain relevant, the provision of high quality advice, service and products will enable us to celebrate a second centenary.”

Quality is of paramount importance to The Fine Bedding Company Hospitality Division which is a division of Trendsetter Home Furnishings Ltd.

Trendsetter’s factory in Estonia (where all of our fibre-filled products are produced) as well as our offices in Manchester, are fully audited and have been accredited to ISO9001 since 2008. Our products carry the Oeko Tex “Confidence in Textiles” certification.

We are members of the industry body Sedex, and our suppliers are audited to SMETA standards, ensuring that we and our partners are working to the best business practices possible, and constantly striving for improvement.

The Fine Bedding Company is well known for product innovation and recent success stories include Smartfil® and more recently SonicSeam®, an automatic threadless stitching technique which is a world first in pillow and duvet production.

Following the company’s historical tradition for developing bespoke machine and process capabilities, we have brought together a team of engineers spanning a range of non-textile industries to produce a machine that fundamentally changes the industry and market.

SonicSeam®, is a visually appealing, threadless seam which uses high frequency sound to change the molecular structure of fabrics.

This new fully automated process offers many benefits, not least increased operating efficiency; fabric waste reduction; increased productivity and capacity; plus it gives us the flexibility to produce bedding to meet all European sizes.

We ensure that all of our suppliers have signed a contract for the compliance of corporate ethics, including working conditions, the environment and the treatment of animals.

We use independent third party auditors to ensure supply chain traceability and conformance to the European Down and Feather Association (EDFA) and Oeko-Tek® raw material standards.

A sustainable future

We have a vision for a sustainable future. We are the only manufacturer to conduct a carbon study on our products. These results, in line with our bespoke model for continuous improvement, ensures that we have a defined route map for continuing to challenge our practices to ensure that we have the most sustainable produced product in the market.

We continually assess the environmental impact of our activities and:

Focus on reducing the amount of packaging used, waste produced and carbon footprint generated - Invest in reducing direct energy consumption - Achieved a 40% reduction in non-production consumption - Avoid the use of known pollutants Manage the responsible recycling/disposal of all waste materials - SO14001 accreditation.
